For Staff and Teachers

Teachers and staff who were in the school the day of the shooting share a unique bond. Traumatic reactions and grief reactions will vary as each of you find your way to come to terms with what has happened. There is no right way or wrong way to grieve, only your way. That being, said, each of you must work to accept the loss and find your way to adjust to the “new normal.” Returning to school this fall may have brought special challenges. There are triggers - walking down the hallway, events in the news, school events throughout the year and the upcoming anniversary. However, many of you may have found that the school community is resilient. There is an inner capacity to withstand stress and catastrophe, to adapt and to rebuild after such a devastating tragedy. Perhaps you have witnessed this resiliency with your students. Please use this forum to share your stories of both sorrow and resilience.

Last Friday evening I was at the Willoughby South vs. Chardon football game played at South. Upon arrival and sitting in the visitors bleachers the Chardon band displayed two large banners-one said We Love Willoughby and the other One Heartbeat. It was awesome!
